A motion to remove a chapter on Pakistan’s national poet Muhammad Iqbal, popularly known as Allama Iqbal, from the political science curriculum was approved by Delhi University’s Academic Council on Friday. Iqbal, who wrote the well-known song “Saare jahan se achha,” was born in Sialkot, India, in 1877. He is also credited with creating the “idea of Pakistan.”
‘Modern Indian Political Thought’ is a chapter in the sixth-semester paper for BA, according to the officials, who also added that the issue would now be brought up before the university’s Executive Council, which will make the final decision.

According to the course syllabus, “the course has been designed to give students a glimpse into the richness and diversity within the Indian political thought.”
The course aims to give students a critical comprehension of contemporary Indian thinking, it continues. It added that the purpose of thematic study of ideas was to “reflect over the diverse possibilities exhibited in the writings of the respective thinkers” and “locate the topical debates on important subjects on a historical trajectory.”The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a group connected with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, praised the development and blamed Iqbal, a “fanatical theological scholar,” for the partition of India.
