On the Disney+Hotstar streaming service, viewers will be able to watch the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup and Asia Cup for free. This choice was made after the firm earlier this year lost the ability to stream the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The research firm CLSA calculated that Jio Cinema’s theft of the streaming rights for the most anticipated T20 tournament caused Hotstar’s subscriber base to drop by close to 5 million. The corporation is concentrating on recovering its viewership by taking into account the consumption of digital content on mobile devices.
“Disney+ Hotstar has remained at the forefront of the rapidly evolving OTT industry in India and the various innovations we have introduced to continue enhancing the viewer experience has allowed us to delight our audiences across the region,” said Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar.
He added, “making the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup available to a wider audience, we believe, will help us grow the overall eco-system.” Taking this step will allow more than 540 million mobile users across India to stream the highly anticipated ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and Asia Cup for free.
The start date and duration of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 are set for October 5, 2023 and November 19, 2023, respectively. The entire competition will take place in India. In September 2023, the Asian Cup 2023 will take place as a warm-up tournament for the Cricket World Cup 2023.
