Three men accused of gang-raping a 23-year-old woman, the daughter of a former government official, were arrested in Lucknow. The incident occurred on December 5, and the arrest followed 12 hours after the victim filed a complaint at Wazirganj police station. The accused, including a private ambulance operator and two tea vendors near Kings George Medical University (KGMU), allegedly raped the woman inside a moving car. They drove around the city for hours, forcing her to consume a drink laced with intoxicants before the assault between IT crossing in Hasanganj and Safedabad in Barabanki.
The police registered an FIR under various sections, including gang rape, against the accused—Satyam Mishra (22), Mohammad Suhail (23), and Mohammad Alam (31). The arrest took place near Sunni Inter College in Bazarkhala around 12:45 am. According to DCP Rahul Raj, the woman frequented a tea stall run by Mishra at the KGMU gate, and on the day of the incident, he suggested charging her phone in an ambulance. Taking advantage of her medical condition, they forced her into a car, where she was sexually assaulted.
The victim’s complaint detailed the sequence of events, including being threatened, filmed, and forced to consume intoxicants. She pleaded for the video’s deletion and requested to be dropped at a friend’s house in Sector 9 Indira Nagar. The accused left her at Munshipulia and fled. The police acted promptly, and the arrests were made in the Bazarkhala area.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of individuals, especially those facing health challenges, to exploitation. The police have assured a thorough investigation, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges against the accused. Such cases underscore the importance of creating a safer environment for all citizens, particularly those in vulnerable situations.
