When a double-decker sleeper bus hit a milk container early on Wednesday morning on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the Unnao region of Uttar Pradesh, more than 19 people were injured and 18 people died in a horrific disaster. Around 5:15 a.m., a bus from Motihari , Bihar, to Delhi crashed with a milk truck from behind when it was passing by Gadha Village in the vicinity of the Behtamujawar Police Station.
“Today at around 05.15 AM, a private bus coming from Motihari, Bihar, collided with a milk tanker,” said Unnao District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi. The accident has claimed the lives of eighteen persons and injured 19 more. It appears from the preliminary inquiry that the bus was traveling at a high speed. The wounded are receiving medical attention.
The injured have been transported to Unnao district hospital, with those requiring further medical attention being shifted to higher-level hospitals. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who visited the site, emphasized the government’s commitment to providing immediate and effective medical care. He remarked, “All hospitals nearer to Unnao are being put on alert. The trauma centre of KGMO is on alert. Most of the injured people are from Bihar, and we are in contact with the Bihar government. Reasons for the accident will come after investigation, but our priority is to provide proper treatment to the injured people.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deep condolences to the families of the deceased. He instructed the district administration to ensure the injured receive proper treatment and wished for their speedy recovery. On X, CM Adityanath stated, “The loss of life in a road accident in Unnao district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families. District administration officials have been instructed to reach the spot and speed up the relief work. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls and provide a speedy recovery to the injured.”
Following the accident, police led by Circle Officer of Bangarmau, Arvind Chaurasia, rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident, with preliminary reports suggesting that overspeeding might have been a factor.
