Underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim, the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai blasts and India’s most wanted fugitive, has reportedly been hospitalized in Karachi, Pakistan. Speculations about poisoning have emerged, though Pakistan has not officially confirmed his hospitalization. Several reports indicate tight security measures around Dawood inside the hospital, but independent verification is pending.
Dawood Ibrahim has been purportedly residing in Pakistan for decades, specifically in Karachi’s upscale Clifton area, according to Indian authorities. However, Pakistan consistently denies his presence in the country. In January 2023, his nephew informed India’s National Investigation Agency that Dawood had remarried in Pakistan and lives in Karachi with his second wife Maizabin and their children.
Alishah Parkar, Dawood’s nephew, revealed details about Dawood’s family, including three daughters (Marukh, Mehrin, and Maziya) and one son (Mohin Nawaz). The information is part of the NIA’s charge sheet filed in November of the previous year.
The NIA alleges that Dawood’s criminal organization, known as the D-Company, has formed a special unit with the aim of instilling terror in India. This unit reportedly plans to target prominent personalities, including political leaders and business figures. The revelation adds another layer to the notorious legacy of Dawood Ibrahim and the ongoing challenges in tracking and apprehending him.
Dawood Ibrahim’s involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings resulted in the deaths of over 250 people and injuries to thousands. The incident remains one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in India’s history. The recent developments surrounding Dawood’s health raise questions about the circumstances of his hospitalization and the broader issue of cross-border criminal activities that impact the security dynamics between India and Pakistan. The situation also highlights the persistent challenges in obtaining accurate information about Dawood’s activities and whereabouts, contributing to the complex narrative surrounding his elusive existence.
