In a survey published by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Kolkata has been named the safest city in India for three years running. In comparison to other major Indian cities, the research shows that Kolkata registered the fewest identifiable offences per lakh population. The next two safest cities were Hyderabad, in Telangana, and Pune, in Maharashtra. Cases reported under different parts of the Special Local Laws (SLL) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) are considered considered crimes. Nineteen Indian big cities, all with populations more than two million, were compared in the NCRB research. Although Kolkata has earned a stellar safety rating, this does not mean that crime is absent; in fact, reports of crimes against women have increased in the city.
For those looking for a more peaceful setting than other big cities, Kolkata still presents a ray of hope. The low rate of violent crime in the city adds to its comforting ambience for tourists. Famous locations like the Maidan, Howrah Bridge, and Victoria Memorial serve as both inviting and safe places to visit in addition to serving as symbols of the city’s rich past. Whether traveling in groups or alone, visitors can feel secure exploring these well-liked tourist destinations. The efficient law and order situation in Kolkata creates a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy for people to congregate in public areas without fear. Although no city is completely free of crime, Kolkata’s reputation for safety makes it a more desirable travel destination for those looking for both great cultural diversity and a safe travel environment.
