Squadron Leader Mohana Singh has made history as the first woman fighter pilot to join the Indian Air Force’s prestigious 18 ‘Flying Bullets’ squadron, which operates the indigenously developed LCA Tejas fighter jets. Her landmark achievement was highlighted during the recent ‘Tarang Shakti’ exercise held in Jodhpur, where she played a significant role in a historic flight involving the vice chiefs of the three armed forces.
The ‘Tarang Shakti’ exercise saw a unique collaborative flight demonstration, featuring three vice chiefs from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Squadron Leader Singh was not only a participant but also took on a notable role by instructing the Indian Army and Navy vice chiefs during the flight in the LCA Tejas fighter jet. This exercise marked a significant moment in Indian military aviation history, showcasing the integration and coordination between the different branches of the armed forces.
In the exercise, Air Force Vice Chief Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh flew solo in an LCA Tejas fighter variant, demonstrating the jet’s advanced capabilities. Meanwhile, the Army Vice Chief, Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani, and Navy Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan piloted the trainer variants, accompanied by two fighter pilots for the demonstration.
Mohana Singh’s participation in this historic event underscores the growing role of women in the Indian Air Force and highlights the capabilities of the indigenously developed LCA Tejas fighter jets.
