Since the annual Char Dham Yatra to the four Hindu shrines in Uttarakhand began on Akshay Tritiya, on April 22, 119 pilgrims had passed away.
This year’s trek to the hill shrines was made much more difficult by rain and chilly weather that persisted until May.
The leading reasons for deaths this year were cardiac arrest and respiratory conditions. Additionally, other pilgrims perished in traffic incidents.
58 pilgrims died at the Kedarnath yatra, out of the 119 fatalities.
The majority of the pilgrims that perished were from Gujarat, Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and MP.
The Uttarakhand tourist agency stated earlier this week that the total number of pilgrims who have travelled the Char Dham Yatra this season has exceeded 20 lakhs, with Kedarnath Dham reporting the highest foot traffic at 7.13 lakh.
To manage the crowds, the government has currently stopped online registration for the Kedarnath Yatra till June 15 due to the more than 40 lakh pilgrims who registered for the Char Dham Yatra up until June 4.
