Manoj Sahani, 56, has been detained for the murder of his live-in girlfriend at their rental home in Mumbai’s Mira Road neighbourhood. According to sources, the accused sliced his partner’s body into more than 20 pieces with a tree cutter before boiling the fragments in a pressure cooker.
Saraswati Vaidya, 36, the victim, and the defendant had shared apartment 704 in Geeta Akash Deep building in Geeta Nagar Phase 7 for the last three years. Manoj is a business owner in Borivali.
On Wednesday, Nayanagar police were notified by the building’s residents about the unpleasant odour coming from the flat. The apartment’s deteriorating body pieces raised the possibility that the murder occurred three to four days earlier.
Shrikant Pathak, Additional Commissioner of Police said, “The killing was committed on June 4, and the accused chopped the body into small pieces using two cutters, including an electric one. Some pieces of the body seem to be missing. We suspect the accused may have dumped the pieces gradually in different areas.”
DCP Jayant Bajbale added, “We nabbed the accused while he was trying to flee the building. We will be registering a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. “
This horror murder is another reminder of the killing of Shraddha Walker who was murdered the same way by her live-in partner in Delhi.
