A 26-year-old man, Aditya Shankar Gangwar, suffered severe injuries when a pitbull owned by his family attacked him in the Khalilpur area of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The attack occurred on Wednesday afternoon, leaving Aditya with grievous wounds to his face, including the loss of his lips.
The dog, known for its aggressive temperament, launched an unprovoked attack while Aditya was at home. His screams alerted neighbors, who rushed to intervene, ultimately saving him from further harm. Aditya was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery to address the extensive damage.
The municipal team captured the dog shortly after the incident and relocated it to an Animal Birth Centre. While the pitbull is reportedly calm now, workers at the centre remain cautious, given the breed’s reputation for unpredictable behavior.
The attack reignites debates over the safety of keeping breeds like pitbulls as domestic pets. While advocates argue that proper training and care can mitigate aggression, incidents like this highlight the potential risks, especially in urban settings where space and handling expertise may be limited.
Local authorities are assessing the situation, and the fate of the dog remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Aditya is recovering from his injuries, but the emotional and physical scars of the attack will likely take time to heal
