In Bhagalpur, Bihar, students from a government senior secondary school took drastic measures by holding their teachers hostage due to the non-receipt of admit cards for the upcoming Class 10 board examinations. The incident unfolded at Gandhi Inter School in Goradih block, where agitated students, numbering around 300, physically assaulted teachers and confined them in a classroom. The principal in charge managed to escape.
The students asserted that approximately 300 of them, slated to appear for the board exams, had not received their admit cards. They cited a prior instance where around 150 students were unable to take the exams last year due to a similar issue with admit cards. Fearing a repeat, the students resorted to extreme measures to draw attention to their predicament.
The teachers, facing the wrath of the students, insisted that the responsibility for admit cards lies with the Bihar School Examination Board, and they merely play a role in teaching. They clarified that they had communicated this issue to higher authorities.
To resolve the tense situation, local police intervened, rescuing the teachers from their confinement. The incident sheds light on the challenges faced by students in accessing essential examination-related documents, prompting desperate measures to ensure a fair chance for all students to participate in the upcoming board exams.
The underlying issue highlights the importance of streamlining administrative processes to ensure timely distribution of admit cards and prevent students from facing unnecessary obstacles in pursuing their education. Authorities are urged to address such concerns promptly to maintain the integrity of the education system and safeguard the academic aspirations of students.
