The beauty of a location is not just in its aesthetics, but also in the narratives that inspire it, where colors, textures, and design all work together to tell a story using visual language to create a symbolic environment. Those are the same concepts that conceptual cafes follow, emphasising architecture and design to express their identity and stand out from the crowd. We have put up a list of some interesting conceptual cafes located all throughout India that you should be aware of.
The Village Café
This café reinterprets rural architecture by using a simple and uncompromisingly raw palette of locally obtained materials to create textures and volumes that vividly recall a village. Monolithic concrete portals create an organic maze-like arrangement for the area with low-lying terracotta tiled walls that evoke the appearance of junctions and charming lanes in a typical town. There are areas for indoor and outdoor seating on the two levels of the cafe.
The Village Cafe, created by Portal 92, is located in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The Swirl
The key feature of this dessert studio is the ceiling made of cloth to recreate the cold tones of ice creams using a pastel colour scheme of peach, blue, and green. It was inspired by their product itself—the swirl on the soft ice cream from the machine. The lightweight, modular furniture uses the same colour scheme as the walls and ceiling, functioning as a base for color-blocked patterns to smoothly blend the two.
The Swirl was created by Architecture Interspace and is situated in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
Myfresh Café
In her first book, British designer Ilse Crawford writes, “Angles reject us. Curves invite us.” This cafe’s flowing design and uniform volume, which are characterised by curving ceilings and organic, free-form wood furnishings, reflect the same gentle, feminine aesthetic impression of curves. A monotonous colour scheme of beige and fawn colours is used to counteract the space’s vibrancy and create a wholesome appearance that embodies My Fresh’s commitment to organic goods.
Myfresh was created by LOOP Design Studio and is situated in Panchkula, Haryana.
