In Pimpri Chinchwad, near Science Park, a head-on collision occurred between a Podar International School bus and a BMW car on 29th July 2024 at around 12:30 PM. The incident resulted in injuries to two students on the bus.
According to the Pimpri Police, the school bus was traveling in the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) lane when the BMW car, coming from the opposite direction at high speed, collided head-on with the bus. The impact of the collision caused significant damage to both vehicles. The two injured students were promptly taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
At the time of the accident, the school bus was carrying 15 students. The police have started an investigation into the collision and are questioning both the car driver and the bus driver to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that excessive speed on the part of the BMW driver may have been a contributing factor.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety, particularly the enforcement of speed limits and the safe operation of vehicles in designated lanes. The Pimpri Police have appealed for better control of speeding vehicles to prevent such incidents in the future. They emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and increased awareness among drivers about the dangers of reckless driving.
Local residents and parents of students attending Podar International School have expressed their anxiety and called for immediate measures to ensure the safety of children commuting to and from school. The school administration has assured parents that they are cooperating fully with the police investigation and are reviewing their safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.
In response to the accident, local authorities are considering additional safety measures, including the installation of speed cameras and increased patrolling in high-risk areas. The incident has also sparked discussions about the need for better infrastructure and road design to accommodate both public and private vehicles safely.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has committed to working with traffic police and other stakeholders to enhance road safety and protect residents from such tragic incidents. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
