Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray was admitted to Reliance Hospital in Mumbai on Monday for a routine health check-up. According to his son, Aaditya Thackeray, the former CM is doing well, and the check-up was pre-planned. Uddhav Thackeray has a history of heart issues, having previously undergone an angioplasty procedure, and his current hospital visit was to monitor his heart health. He underwent tests to assess the condition of his heart arteries, with angiography likely to follow to check for any blockages. Thackeray is expected to be discharged from the hospital today.
His hospitalization comes shortly after he delivered a powerful speech at the Dussehra rally on October 12, during which he strongly criticized the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra and the central government. The speech, known for its aggressive tone, reportedly took a toll on Thackeray’s health, as he began feeling unwell following the event.
The Dussehra rally speech was a major political moment for Thackeray, where he took direct aim at the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Eknath Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena, which currently forms the Mahayuti government. He accused the central government and its allies of undermining democracy and betraying the people of Maharashtra. Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction has been locked in a bitter political battle since the party split in 2022, with the Shinde faction aligning with the BJP, ousting Uddhav Thackeray from power.
Thackeray’s fiery rhetoric at the rally underscored his efforts to maintain a strong political presence in Maharashtra, especially in the face of the upcoming elections. His hospitalization, however, has caused concern among his supporters and political allies. Nevertheless, Aaditya Thackeray’s assurance that his father is fine has provided some relief. The former CM’s health will continue to be closely monitored as he is expected to resume his political activities after being discharged.
