In a shocking incident from Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, a woman named Savita allegedly poisoned her husband, Shailesh (32), shortly after completing her Karva Chauth fast—a ritual traditionally observed for the longevity of one’s husband. The incident unfolded on Sunday evening in Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar when the couple reportedly had an argument while breaking the fast.
According to police sources and statements from the victim’s brother, Savita suspected Shailesh of infidelity. During their argument, she fed him macaroni pasta laced with poison. Shailesh’s brother, Akhilesh, claimed that Savita deliberately poisoned her husband’s food. After consuming the meal, Shailesh began feeling unwell and was promptly rushed to the hospital. In a tragic turn of events, he managed to record a video statement before his demise, in which he accused his wife of poisoning him.
The police quickly took action, registering a case against Savita under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 123 (poisoning) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following the incident, Savita fled the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement. The body of the deceased has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Kaushambi Superintendent of Police, Brijesh Kumar Shrivastava, confirmed the developments, stating, “The woman allegedly poisoned her husband after they had a fight. A case has been registered, the woman arrested, and further investigations are underway.” The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, raising concerns about domestic disputes escalating to such fatal outcomes, especially during significant cultural rituals like Karva Chauth, which are meant to celebrate love and commitment.
