Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh on Monday, urging unity and caution in his remarks. Speaking at a public meeting in Agra, Adityanath emphasized the need for national unity and vigilance, referencing the current turmoil in Bangladesh following the political crisis and attacks on Hindus. He quoted the phrase, “Batenge to Katenge, Ek Rahenge to Nek Rahenge,” which translates to “We will suffer if we are divided, but we will be strong if we stay united,” stressing the importance of avoiding mistakes similar to those occurring in Bangladesh. Adityanath’s comments come amid significant unrest in Bangladesh after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure from the country on August 5. The political crisis has led to widespread violence against the Hindu minority, which comprises about 8% of the Bangladeshi population. Reports indicate that Hindu temples have been desecrated and properties belonging to Hindus have been attacked by mobs. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has reported at least 200 attacks on the Hindu community since Hasina’s exit. In a related statement, Adityanath criticized the opposition for its perceived silence on the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. He pointed out that while the opposition is vocal about international issues, it has failed to address the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh, suggesting that this silence is driven by electoral considerations rather than humanitarian concern. Adityanath’s comments reflect growing concern about the impact of the unrest in Bangladesh on the Hindu minority and underscore the broader implications of the political crisis in the neighboring country. His call for unity aims to strengthen national solidarity and prevent similar conflicts from arising domestically.
